Review of BUNN NCD 10-Cup Black Coffee Decanter

We broke our decanter on our Bunn coffeemaker. We've had the coffee maker for maybe 10 years, and we were worried that a new one wouldn't fit.Much to our satisfaction, this decanter fits our coffee maker perfectly and works just as good as the original ever did.Great product!

The Prize Patrol stopped in front of your house and you were so flabbergasted you dropped the pot of coffee you were holding! Or perhaps a more mundane occurrence, like the phone ringing, caused you to bang your carafe just a tad too hard against the side of the sink. Review of Thermofresh Coffee Brewer

We received this coffeemaker as an upgrade when our last Bunn was recalled due to a manufacturing defect.(NB:Bunn has excellent customer service and is conscientious about recall notifications, and I recommend the company highly.Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this product.)We have been fans of Bunn coffeemakers for years; our first home machine provided us with at least 14,000 pots of fresh, hot coffee before it succumbed to the ravages of time and Minnesota's hard water. We tried very hard to like this model, but ultimately its flaws outweighed its benefits, and we are now shopping for a new coffee maker. The flaws include:

An incredibly drippy carafe. There does not seem to be any way to predict when it will drip or in which direction.Sometimes only a few drops fall from the carafe; sometimes, it spills 1/4 to 1/2 cup of coffee across the countertop.

The internal assembly (which Bunn fans will know is cleaned with a tightly coiled metal reaming spring) is much more difficult to clean in this unit than in our past ones.

This model also seems far less forgiving of our hard water than previous ones and requires cleaning much more frequently. We've had trouble with calcium buildup even with softened water in both the brewer and the lid of the carafe. This and the completely opaque carafe (in combination with our increasing age and forgetfulness) have led to some huge messes in the kitchen, with coffee running over and even into the cabinets below the coffee maker.

Like most thermal carafes, this one does not keep the coffee warm enough for us, and we go through coffee very quickly.I don't see this working at all for most people.

On the brighter side, you will have a fast cup of coffee most of the time, and you will be doing business with a company that deserves its good reputation. If you ask me, though, I'd suggest you buy the model without the thermal carafe unless you own stock in a paper towel company.

Review of Bunn A10 Pour-O-Matic Coffee Brewer

When I was looking to purchase a new machine, I only was looking for a Bunn. Bunn makes the best coffee machines, none can compare. Every diner, coffee house, and Dunkin' Donuts only use Bunn machines. The A10 is one great machine! Brews perfect cups of coffee hot and quickly. Everyone in my office is very happy with the unit. If you're a serious coffee drinker, please don't cheap out on a Mr.Coffee, Braun or Krupps-- frankly they cannot brew coffee at the speed, temperature, or taste of a Bunn unit. I bought the A10 to replace a Bunn unit that I used for 10 years without a glitch.

Review of Coffee Filters 12 Cup (1000BUN) Category: Disposable Coffee Filters

My husband and I are coffee lovers from way back.Once we bought a Bunn coffee pot for our home, we won't have anything else.It makes great coffee in 3 minutes flat, especially if you use Bunn filters. They fit the basket better and filter the coffee better than the other brands, but they are hard to find in the store. That's why I usually just order the box of 1,000 at a time on-line. The last time, I ordered directly from Bunn, but the price offered on Amazon.com was lower, so I said, "Why not?" and decided to give it a try.We received the same identical product but at a lower price.

Review of Bunn STX Specialty 10-Cup Home Coffee Brewer with Thermal Carafe

I was one of the first customers of this STX brewer. Full disclosure: Bunn awarded me this Bunn as a result of me winning their video contest earlier this summer. I have used Bunn brewers for about 10 years. This particular thermal model is solidly built compared to their last model which was all plastic, and would kind of bend at the slightest pressure if any were given on the top of the machine. Not so with this one. The quality can even be seen in the grounds basket - not your usual thin plastic basket. This one is very sturdy thick plastic, surrounded by stainless steel. The coffee produced is the usual Bunn quality - great. I've used this brewer every day and it consistently gives me the same quality pot of coffee. An even better value when purchased via stores like Amazon where the price is better than what can be had in your regular retail stores.

    Product Description:
Durably built with a sleek, modern design and stainless-steel accents, this unique home-brewing system makes up to 10 cups (50 ounces) of great-tasting coffee, plus it keeps hot water available for tea or other uses as needed. The coffee brewer's specially designed stainless-steel water tank features an internal thermostat, which helps maintain an ideal brewing temperature of approximately 200 degrees F for maximum flavor and fast brewing. When it's time to brew, the machine's patented spray-head design showers water quickly and evenly over the coffee grounds in the filter basket to ensure fully extracted coffee flavor. The entire process takes only three or four minutes, which means full-flavored coffee, never over-extracted and bitter. A stainless-steel vacuum-insulated carafe with a stay-cool handle comes included to keep coffee hot without overheating--no warming plate needed. Other highlights include a sturdy die-cast base, a stainless-steel wrapped funnel with a soft ergonomic handle, user-friendly controls, and an easy-to-clean design. Review of Bunn BCF100-T 100-Count Basket Filter

AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS OF FRUSTRATION WITH MY EXPENSIVE STARBUCKS BARISTA AROMA GRANDE OVERFLOWING GRINDS AND SEDIMENT OVER THE TOP EDGE OF THE MELLITA PAPER FILTERS AND INTO THE COFFEE POT, I BOUGHT THESE FILTERS AT MY LOCAL ACE HARDWARE AND WAS AMAZED THAT THEY INDEED DO WORK BETTER WITH NO OVERFLOW. THIS PROBABLY IS DUE TO A TALLER PROFILE TO THE FILTER AND A MORE TIGHTLY FLUTED FILTER WALL. THIS MAKES A STRONGER FILTER EDGE WHICH DOES NOT FOLD DOWN AND PROBABLY INCREASES THE FILTRATION SURFACE AREA....HIGHLY RECOMMENDED OVER THE OTHER BRANDS.

Review of BUNN GRXW Original 10-Cup Home Coffee Brewer, White

Much the same as one I owned over twenty years ago. Why (fix) change the design if it doesn't need changing (fixing). The only difference between the old Model & the new one is that there is a switch in the cover that allows you time to pour the water into unit & then place the pot underneath. Also it seems cheaper material is now being used.
Keeps water hot all the time (except there is a vacation off switch) so you are able to make coffee in about three minutes.

Review of BUNN GRXB Original 10-Cup Home Coffee Brewer, Black

I've had 3 of these in the last 10 years (I don't baby my coffeemakers, and eventually the hard water kills them). I am not the patient type, so I prefer the Bunn because it makes a full pot in 3 mins. I can start the coffee, get the cup and the creamer, and the coffee is ready.

I prefer this version over the newer one, as I am not too certain of the swivel lid on the newer ones remaining flat and not breaking.

I would recommend that you use the Bunn coffee filters, which are available at most stores. Anything else is probably too short to properly fit the filter container, and you'll get grounds in your coffee pot.

I also recommend using a pretty fine grind of coffee. That seems to get the best flavor.

Review of BUNN NHBX-W Contemporary 10-Cup Home Coffee Brewer, White

The Bunn Coffee Brewer makes great coffee, but there is design feature that may appeal to many. The water pours into the front of the brewer.
With most counter top coffee makers, the water must be poured into the back of the machine. This means the coffee maker must be pulled away from the overhead cabinets in order to access the water reservoir. With the Bunn, I never have to move the machine and I can keep it pushed back on the counter top.
The brewing time is so short that you don't need a programmable timer. From the time I pour the water in until I am enjoying my first cup is only a little over 3 minutes.
I should have bought this a long time ago.

Review of BUNN BTX-B(D) ThermoFresh High Altitude 10-Cup Home Thermal Carafe Coffee Brewer, Black

I wasn't thrilled about plunking down $150 for a coffee pot, especially after reading the reviews about how they leak.I guess I was one of the lucky ones or BUNN has fixed their leaking problem. My coffee pot works perfectly. This is the best coffee pot I've ever owned.I have coffee on all day long and I was getting tired of throwing out old coffee. With this pot, the coffee stays hot all day without that burnt taste.I'll probably save money in the long run since I'm not throwing coffee out.I am very fussy about my coffee and as soon as it is the least bit old, i won't drink it. Ever since my first Bunn, I have not used any other coffee pot.I can't even drink coffee that comes from another pot.I don't know why it makes such good coffee, but it's just awesome, not to mention that by the time I get my cup and put the cream in, the coffee is done.Bottom line:This coffee pot makes the best coffee, it makes it FAST, and it stays hot all day.I just had to write this review because I am thrilled with my coffee pot.

Review of BUNN NHBX-B(D) Generation High Altitude10-Cup Home Pourover Coffee Brewer, Black

Sep 20, 2009: I've owned this product for two days now.So far so good. Amazon packaged this item well and I got free delivery in 4 days. Thanks Amazon! I'm very pleased with your service.

This coffee maker is replacing a Braun unit, which gave me nothing but grief with its numerous problems.I did quite a bit of research on Consumer Reports (CR) and Amazon and decided on the Bunn.I respect CR, but sometimes their recommendations don't match owners' experiences, who use a particular product for a much longer time than CR's testers do.Because of this, I value the owner reviews on Amazon.

This coffee maker has a nice look to it--at least for my taste. The funnel and a decanter's handle seem a bit flimsy. I have a preference for sturdier things.Still, I don't expect them to give me trouble in the future. If they do, I can get replacements from Bunn or a reseller.

You *really* have to pay attention to the setup instructions, which are good.I failed to write down the serial number ("date code") on the bottom of the unit, so I had to go through a lengthy step to drain the reservoir in order to get at the info necessary to register my coffee maker.(The extra time was needed to cool the hot water in the reservoir.Bunn's FAQ has the exact steps.)

In any case, one should take the time to read the instructions carefully--especially, since this coffee maker operates differently than most others. For example, adding water and closing the top lid starts the hot water to flow immediately (ie. starts the coffee making process). There's no switch to push. So you'd better have the funnel and the decanter in place, otherwise you'll have a major mess to clean up.I've made some pots of coffee by now and got a hang of it.It's not tricky at all--just different.

As one reviewer already suggested for the non-high altitude model, you can save on energy by using a timer.I use an X10 3-prong Appliance Module for the coffee maker along with a programmable Mini Timer.(You can get these from x10.com. Despite their weird web site, their gadgets work.Radio Shack used to re-sell their stuff.)The Mini Timer turns power on to the coffee maker via the Appliance Module at 5am and shuts it off at 5pm.So the water is heated 12 hours per day, when I'm likely to want to make coffee. I still must be physically present to make a pot of coffee and don't believe that any automation is possible. This is fine by me, since brewing is so quick.

I don't use the warmer plate at all. Instead, I pour the hot coffee into the thermal carafe from my decommissioned Braun coffee maker. This keeps the coffee acceptably hot for hours.Similar thermal carafes are available for $20-30 from Amazon.

Some people complained that the glass carafe makes a mess when pouring coffee from it.I didn't encounter this problem.I'm sure it's related to pouring "technique."

On CR's recommendation I ordered a new and inexpensive coffee grinder from Amazon (Mr. Coffee IDS77), which should give me control over grind quantity and level of coarseness. I haven't yet received this grinder and therefore can't comment on its efficiency.

Again, on CR's recommendation I bought Eight O'Clock Coffee 100% Colombian caffeinated coffee, which was their top choice and it's not very expensive.I used this coffee today. It was fine and not bitter.

As other people already pointed out, you can get Bunn filters inexpensively.I found sites that sell them in bulk for $14/1,000.

In summary: I like my new Bunn. The coffee it made came out tasting great and the brewing process is very fast.If anything changes, I'll post an update.

Review of BUNN BTX-B ThermoFresh 10-Cup Thermal-Carafe Home Coffee Brewer, Black

I bought this brewer in October. At first I was very happy with it. Then the carafe started leaking so bad it was ridiculous. I called Bunn a couple of days ago and the lady told me to wash the spout and the seal around the rim with Dawn dishwashing soap (she specifically said Dawn which I happened to have on hand) and the carafe would perform much better. She said that after a number of uses the oil from the coffee keeps the seal from sealing well. I hung up fully expecting to call her back in a few minutes. I washed the carafe as she suggested and it works like new again... no leaks!! If you have this pot, try it, you'll be amazed at the difference. Now I love this brewer again!

Review of BUNN BX-B Classic 10-Cup Home Coffee Brewer, Black

I will not bore you with all of the exact specifics of this coffee brewer. There are plenty of other reviews here on AmazonBUNN BX-B Classic 10-Cup Home Coffee Brewer, Black or check the Bunn website for additional info here:http://www.bunnomatic.com/retail/products/b.html

This Bunn BX-B 10-cup coffe brewer is a pricey but fantastic coffee maker for your home or small office.I bought one for my office, so that I can make myself a quick pot of coffee when I get to work or whenever someone stops by to visit my office during the day. This machine makes coffe FAST and the flavor of the coffee is always consistent.Although I have never found many of the Bunn coffee makers to be much of a fashion statement, this unit is fairly high-tech looking, with its black and stainless color combination.Since the water flows out of this unit so quickly, using a showerhead type spray pattern, I highly suggest that you always use genuine Bunn coffee filters as the store brand filters are usually not tall enough, causing the ground coffee to splash up and over the edge of the shorter filters.

One noteable difference between this and most previous pour-over Bunn models is that this unit does not require the use of a seperate water pitcher. You simply fill your coffee pot with water, lift the little door on the top/front of the unit and pour your water in.The most important step is to place the coffee pot on the warmer plate, being sure to center it properly, before lowering the door on the top of the coffee maker. As soon as you lower the door the water will start to flow quickly. If you lower the door before you place the pot underneath, you will likely end up with a bit of a mess. Also, I recommend that you insert your filter and pour in your measured amount of ground coffee before pouring water into the Bunn, because even with the door up I find that some water tends to drip from the output nozzle, causing water to drip down onto the warmer plate.I fill my pot with water, set it aside while installing my filter and ground coffee, then pour in my water, center the pot on the warmer plate and then lower the door. This has produced proper function every time, without any mess to clean up.

My likes and dislikes are as follows:

    Pros:
    *****
-Makes a pot of coffee in only 3 minutes or less!
-Consistent coffee flavor with every pot
-No need to use a seperate water pitcher as with previous Bunn models
-Simplistic operation that anyone can handle
    -Easy to clean and maintain
-Pleasing black and stainless steel design
-Build quality seems to be much higher than many other coffee makers

    Cons:
    *****
-No automatic shutoff (could pose hazzard if warmer plate is left on over the weekend)
-No timer feature for brewing coffee at a set time
-No temperature control for the warmer plate (it gets VERY hot!)
-If you don't use it for several days some of the water evaporates from the hot water tank
-Must use genuine Bunn coffee filters, which are not always easy to find
-Pricey for a basic coffee maker

The cons are somewhat minor but the lack of an automatic shutoff really bothers me.I ended up purchasing a seperate digital appliance timer, which I plug the Bunn coffee maker into, so that I can set power on and off times. This way I don't have to worry about leaving the warmer plate turned on over night or over the weekend.Overall I am extremely happy with my Bunn BX-B coffee brewer. It is easy to use and makes a great tasting pot of coffee in just under 3 minutes. It is also a great device for producing plain hot water. If you exclude the filter and coffee this unit produces a pot of very hot water in less time than it takes to make the normal pot of coffee. This is great for making instant coffee, hot chocolate, tea, instant oatmeal, etc.The BX-B carries a pretty hefty price tag (as all Bunn models do), but it is built well and makes excellent coffee in a flash. If you believe that time is money (as I do), then the Bunn BX-B is worth every penny for all of the time you'll save.=o)

Review of Bunn NHB Professional Home Brewer, Black

I'm fond of some of the 'thicker' smokier coffees.Mocha Matari (while difficult to find) is among my favorites.Normal drip pots (including some expensive ones) don't provide the complexity of flavor I enjoy.(I suspect the water is too hot, the brewing cycle is too long, and the coffee is over-extracted.)

One of my daughters is a coffee fanatic. She brought me some Ethopian coffee that she insisted I just had to try.So I ground it up, brewed it with the Bunn, and tasted it.The coffee was great. But my daughter's comments were revealing."This tastes so good at home, but so much better here.My birthday is coming up -- I know what I want for a gift."

And that's basically what it comes down to.Even supermarket "100% Columbian" coffee tastes pretty good, better than it has any right to taste.

There are a couple of down-sides, though. It keeps the water hot all the time, and that means that the water evaporates over time.Get accustomed to brewing a pot a day, and if you brew two pots in a row, you'll get more water than you expect and the coffee will be thin.Go away for the weekend, and you'll have less water than you expected when you return. Also, the brewing does not over-extract the coffee compared to most other brewing machines, and that means that to get the strength of coffee you want, you'll probably want to use about 20% more coffee than what you're accustomed to.Also, the quick extraction seems to brew the coffee with less caffeine, so if coffee is something you use to get started after not enough sleep, and not something to savor, this may not be for you.

But what you get in return is something that doesn't just open your eyes, but that tastes better than you probably thought was possible. For my money, there is no second choice.

Also -- stock up on the Bunn filter papers. They're deeper, and that's necessary to keep grounds from overflowing. The quick brew cycle means that there's more water in with the coffee than with typical coffee brewers, and standard filters can't contain all that water.

Review of BUNN NHBX-B Contemporary 10-Cup Home Coffee Brewer, Black

Bunn Coffee Makers are very high quality coffee makers, and one typically needs to spend money to get this kind of quality. However, there are a few costs you should be aware of before you purchase a Bunn Coffee Maker.I'm not saying that it may not be worth it to you, but you may as well know all of the costs before purchasing.

They both have to do with how Bunn delivers such a fast pot - 3 minutes as opposed to 4-8 minutes of other makers. The first way they do it is to have what amounts to two sets of water tanks: one you fill, and the other is preheated. The preheated water tank is delivered to the spray head, and because it is preheated, it doesn't require any time to heat it up.The problem is that it is preheated 24/7, and that can be costly.I'm guessing they use a 100 watt heater. If it takes 15-30 cents per day in energy costs, you are looking at $50-$100 per year. You can, after you are done brewing for the day, shut off the "vacation switch" which is the switch to the tank heater, and this will save the cost and energy, but if you forget to turn it back on at least 15 minutes ahead of when you need it, you are looking at a 15 minute wait for the tank to reheat before you can brew.

Furthermore, if you are having guests, if you brew a pot of caffinated, followed by a pot of decaf, you may need to wait 15 minutes between pots. The Bunn commercial brewers keep three preheated tanks, so this isn't a problem for them. But the consumer models keep only one tank preheated.

Note that they work on gravity: the water you put in pushes the preheated water out. Some of the preheated water will evaporate, so you have to put in more water than you want out.

The second thing they do to get a fast brew is to increase the amount of water that pours in to the filter basket, far greater than other coffee makers. The amount of water would collapse other filters, but because these filters are taller and sturdier, they stand up.But that means you are stuck with their filters, which, if you don't have a supply nearby, and few stores carry them, means paying for the filters plus shipping.

Bunn builds coffee makers to last, unlike other coffee makers that will wear out after a year or two.Virtually all programmable models seem to only last a year or two.So by buying this brand, you'll save money on coffee makers, to partly make up for the extra energy and filter costs.

You'll have to decide whether the extra energy and filter costs (which can be dealt with, but might be troublesome) are worth saving the cost of buying a new machine every couple of years.

Next, the carbon footprint of a machine that consistently wastes energy is somewhat (but not all) counterbalanced by the fact that it is made in America, and does not require shipping halfway around the world like some of the better brands. Additionally, these coffee makers will easily outlast 5x other coffee makers, and that's a lot of plastic you save buy buying something only once.

Finally, the quality of coffee from a flat bottom filter is generally not as high as that you can get from a cone filter, though the differences will be subtle, and if you are used to the flavor of a flat bottom filter, then you may never care. This brand is considered the best of the flat bottom makers, so there may not be as much of a difference as there are for other brands.

As for the heated base keeping your coffee hot, it is also *ruining* the flavor from almost the very first minute.Any real coffee geek will immediately take the pot off the heater and pour it into a thermal carafe or thermos or will order a model with a thermal carafe to start with. Ideally, there is no heated base at all.So people complaining that it doesn't keep the coffee hot should invest in a thermal carafe or buy a model that comes with one.

In summary, the design of these coffee makers is suited to the standard donut shop, where they are brewing coffee around the clock and it is worth it to them to keep extra tanks of water heated so that they can shave 1-3 minutes off the brew time during their peak buying periods.Whether it is worth it for a consumer who makes one or two pots of coffee in the morning to do something like this is something only you can answer for yourself. They are very good coffee makers: well built and they make good coffee. But they cost a lot in terms of energy and filters, though partly balanced by the reduction in number of coffee makers you'll buy over the life of this product and the local nature of the product that reduces the energy required to ship them. It's one thing to have a high cost, but to have the high energy waste these coffee makers will generate for most consumers is something everyone should think about.
